*Wednesday, June 10 - An Afternoon with Sorrento's Star Chef: Peppe Guida Optional Shore Tour
Travelers flock to the Amalfi Coast to experience the remarkable views, colorful buildings and excellent restaurants and shops that line the water’s edge. We have planned an amazing visit to the Sorrento Peninsula for a very special experience with Master Chef Peppe Guida with a visit to his personal villa, Villa Rosa. This organic farm and culinary school overlooks Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. We will begin the morning in Sorrento with a guided walking tour, after some free time, we will drive the short distance to Villa Rosa. Hosted personally by Peppe, he will share his culinary journey and inspirations with us while walking with us through his organic farm. He will then present a chef’s demonstration followed by a wine- paired lunch on the terrace with local wines hand selected by Peppe himself. After the ride back to town you can either be dropped back at the pier to board the ship or you can spend additional free time in Sorrento and maximize your Amalfi Coast experience.
*Friday, June 12 - Amazing Wines & Views of Santorini Optional Shore Tour
We will begin our day at the northernmost part of the island at Domaine Sigalas, home to some of the oldest vineyards in the world. Sample a variety of stunning wines on the patio with a spectacular view of the Aegean Sea. Enjoy a wine paired lunch, created and inspired by their in-house chef and based on Santorini's local produce and fresh fish. The courses are harmoniously accompanied by specially selected wines of Domaine Sigalas. After lunch we will have some free time to explore Oia. Revel in the beautiful cobblestone streets lined with charming whitewashed houses, delve into the porous volcanic rock overlooking the deep blue caldera. Next we will head to the capital city of Fira. Stroll along winding lanes or relax over a coffee while gazing down upon the Caldera Bay cast in afternoon hues. Our travel guide will provide us with sight-seeing and shopping recommendations as well as restaurants should you want to dine off ship this evening. Return to the ship at your leisure anytime via a cable car down to the pier where the ships tender boats await you.
*Saturday, June 13 - Wines from the Island of the Sun Optional Shore Tour
The ancient Greeks considered wine a gift from the gods and Rhodes, often referred to as the “Island of the Sun” is famous not only for its natural beauty and dramatic history, but for its wines as well. Today, we will discover this historic island’s wines at two family-owned estates. From the pier, we will board a motor coach to the small village of Embonas, the island’s wine capital. Our first visit is to Kounakis Winery, one of Rhodes’ oldest producers. After a warm welcome from our winery host, we will take a guided tour of the estate and taste a complete selection of their wines. Our next stop, Emery Winery is a few minutes away and is one of the oldest and largest wineries in Greece. Here we will enjoy a tasting of their white, red and rosé wines. Following the tasting, we will return to Rhodes Old Town for a leisurely, traditional Greek lunch with wine at a local favorite dining spot on Alexander the Great Square. After lunch, you are free to continue exploring Rhodes at your leisure.
*Tuesday, June 16 - Turkish Delights in Istanbul Optional Shore Tour
One of the best ways to explore this mesmerizing city is on foot. After meeting your guide at the pier, we will begin at Taksim Square, the most know modern city center of Istanbul, for a guided walking tour down Istiklal Street. This famous street, once a gathering spot of Istanbul’s crème de la crème, it is now a bustling yet pleasant pedestrian thoroughfare lined with modern shops, galleries, cinemas, restaurants and bars. Your stroll will bring us to Resat Balik, Istanbul's famous fish market and the Pera Palace Hotel, originally built in 1892 for the purpose of hosting the passengers of the Orient Express. Part hotel, part museum it holds the title of 'the oldest European hotel of Turkey.' Finish your guided walk at Firuze Restaurant. Beginning on their rooftop Monkey Bar, we will partake in a guided tasting of six Turkish wines from a top local producer. After a pre-dinner cocktail on the rooftop bar, dinner will be a five-course wine-paired fare featuring traditional yet inspired Turkish cuisine complete with a beautiful backdrop of the surrounding city. After dinner, you will be free to explore Istanbul further, have a night cap upstairs on the rooftop or leisurely stroll back through the vibrant city with the guide ending at the port to rejoin the ship.
We're working out the details and we'll be sure to keep you updated when we have more news to share! Until then......adiós te veo pronto! (goodbye, see you soon!)
